ELMS Reunion Week and Memorial Weekend : 21 to 26 April (24 to 26 Apr)
The annual ELMS Memorial Weekend will again be centred on Eden Camp WW2 Theme Museum near
Malton in North Yorkshire. Accommodation will be at the Monkbar Hotel in York as usual
Some of our events are Freedom Trails, and each of these is walked for a reason - to remember the evaders
who used these routes to freedom, and to honour the helpers who made that possible. Attendees are briefed
on the historic background of each Trail and constantly reminded of just why we walk them each year
Italian Freedom Trail (Sulmona) : 24 to 26 April
This is a three day event from Sulmona to Casoli. Please contact Mario Setta through the
Il Sentiero della Libertà website at 'ilsentierodellaliberta.it' for more details
AFEES Reunion : 7 to 9 May
This is a three day event at Dayton, Ohio. Beginning with a welcome dinner on Thursday evening, there is a tour
of the nearby Wright-Patterson National Air Force Museum on Friday with a Memorial, AGM and Banquet on the Saturday. Please contact Yvonne Daley-Brusselmans, AFEES Reunion Chairman, for more details
Shelburn Freedom Trail : 4 to 7 June
This is a four day walk along sections of the north Brittany coast from the SOE landing beach
at Beg-an-Fry to the SIS/MI9 Shelburn Plage Bonaparte near Plouha. Organised by the editor
Project Propeller : Saturday 27 June
Ex-WW2 aircrew are invited to this special event at Bruntingthorpe Airfield. Organised by Ian Burnstock (contact details on request) you can get more information from the 'projectpropeller.co.uk' website
Freedom Trail walkers are reminded that in addition to an EHIC, personal accident insurance is essential for these Freedom Trails. Whilst we can offer advice, it is still the individual walker's own responsibility to arrange. For some events the organisers will be asking to see proof that walkers have adequate cover
Andorran Freedom Trail : 4/5 July
This is a two day walk into Andorra and back, following one of the better known escape routes used
during the war. The going for walkers is rated as difficult to very difficult, depending on weather
conditions, and is for fit and experienced ELMS walkers only. Organised by the editor
Chemin de la Liberté : 7 to 14 July
This is a four day trek across the central Pyrenees from St Girons to Esterri d'Aneu in Spain to commemorate the Pat O'Leary Escape Line. The going for walkers is rated as difficult to very difficult, depending on weather conditions. Please note however that the 2009 event is already over-booked for walkers ...
Our Chairman has asked me to remind all ELMS members that we have to raise funds to support those helpers
in need today. With this in mind, all participants are asked to raise sponsorship for their walks
San Martino Freedom Trail : 8 to 12 September
Starting at the Golf Hotel in Pontremoli, this is a three day walk across varying terrain to the sea at Vernazza. The event is aimed at raising funds for the Monte San Martino Trust. Organised by ELMS member Brian Lett
